DAA member, Disability Rights UK (DRUK) is part of the new DRILL (Disability Research on Independent Living and Learning) project which has recently been awarded lottery funding. DRUK are working in partnership with several other DAA members on this project; Disability Wales, and Inclusion Scotland, as well as Disability Action Alliance NI UK. DAA Member Elbow Grease was founded by North London Homecare and Support Ltd. Elbow Grease are a team of volunteers who provide services like dog walking, light cleaning, shopping, light gardening and befriending in the Harlow area to people who are facing difficulties due to old age, illness or disability. For charities there is no charge but for the general public they ask for a donation of £5 per hour to go towards their social events. [Read more…] about Elbow Grease “No Job too small”
On 17th September 2015, the Scottish parliament passed the Scotland British Sign Language Bill into law and it will be given Royal Assent in four weeks’ time. This legislation, which will promote the use of British Sign Language (BSL), has been unanimously backed by MSPs.
The British Sign Language (Scotland) Bill was brought forward by Labour MSP Mark Griffin. The Labour MSP says we are missing out on what deaf and deaf-blind people can offer and we can no longer afford to do so
