Independent Lives represented the views of local disabled people in a report sent to Government, as part of a wider investigation into the process for claiming Personal Independence Payment (PIP). PIP was introduced in 2013 to replace Disability Living Allowance (DLA).
The independent review, opened on behalf of the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) contained a call for evidence from organisations and individuals who have experience of how the PIP process is operating. The conclusions of the independent review will be published in February.

Disability Talk has joined the DAA. Disability Talk is a website that champions the ‘rights of disabled people and vulnerable groups. Its contributors include Professor Stephen Hawking, politicians, Hollywood actress Eileen Grubba, Angela Rippon, Heather Mills, Katie Price, The Mayor of London and many, many more. It runs campaigns, competitions and carries out its own surveys.
To support World Mental Health Day on Monday 10th October England Athletics is encouraging people to #RunAndTalk to improve their mental wellbeing through running and to break down the stigma associated with mental health by getting people talking about it
Andrew Carpenter, Co-ordinator of the London Brokerage Network (www.londonbrokeragenetwork.com), a Disability Action Alliance member, has been appointed the Public Champion for Mobilising Community Assets by NHS England (Healthy London Partnership) and now sits on their Personalisation and Self-Care Delivery Board. Due to his models of Brokerage, this role was created for him and he is contributing to guidance on community brokerage and social prescribing. Andrew was a named speaker at the recent NHSE London conference on Social Prescribing in Sept 2016
