Congratulations to Lynda Hesketh who has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the Birthday 2016 Honours List.
The honours system recognises people who have:
- made achievements in public life
- committed themselves to serving and helping Britain
They usually have made life better for other people or be outstanding at what they do.
Lynda has been granted this award for her work as founder member of Chester Adult Phab Club (People Have Abilities) a unique volunteer led social club for people with and without disabilities.
Lynda’s role within the organisation is purely voluntary and she has remained actively involved as a committee member since the clubs formation 27 years ago. She will be presented with a medal by the Lord Lieutenant at a local ceremony and invited to a Royal Garden Party next summer 2017.
Lynda quoted: “I am delighted to be awarded this honour and it is a proud moment for me. As a person with a disability, I am extremely passionate about providing fully accessible social activities for people with disabilities; promoting disability is no barrier to leading a successful and fulfilling life”.
Patrons of Chester Adult Phab include Actress Cherylee Houston, Izzy Armstrong from Coronation Street and Actor and TV Presenter Warwick Davis.
Chester Adult Phab Club were also presented with The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service The MBE for volunteer groups in June 2012.
