The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has been reviewing the information available through GOV.UK on Disability Confident. This is complete and the website now includes a registration system for employers to register their interest in being Disability Confident. DWP colleagues have asked us to share the information below with DAA members, who may be interested.
“As you will be aware, the Prime Minister launched Disability Confident in July 2013, to encourage employers to attract, recruit and retain disabled people who are eager to work and have the skills, talents and abilities that employers are looking for. This year, the government has committed to halving the employment gap between disabled people and non-disabled people.
So far, Disability Confident has attracted the involvement of a number of employers, but we want to do much more. As part of this, a page was developed on GOV.UK where employers can register an interest in becoming more Disability Confident. In return they will receive a package of guidance and support materials, as well as further communications in the coming months.
Looking ahead, over the next few months, we want to explore with employers and disabled people how we can best recognise those who demonstrate a real commitment and have a record of success.
