Back in late 2010, Disability Dynamics was commissioned by Bolsover District Council to develop a partnership of all the local public, private and voluntary sector organisations providing employment support for disabled people in the area.
Disability Dynamics worked with partners to create the ‘Help to Work’ on-line directory of local support for disabled and non-disabled people, which includes a model of the steps needed to achieve work and analysis of the local employment demographics.
They built capability of “mainstream” partners through training workshops, information e-shots (to over 450 contacts) and regular knowledge-sharing meetings.
In order to maintain progress, the partnership succeeded in being one of six projects across Europe to receive EU funding to test the partnership approach through direct delivery to disabled people and extended its activities to the neighbouring Borough of Chesterfield.
The directory has increased to over 50 partner organisations and the Help to Work Plus project, led by Shaw Trust, Phoenix Enterprises and Disability Dynamics, provides Work Buddies to assist clients to access the support available, gain other bespoke assistance and progress towards work. A further model around sustaining employment has also been developed.
Disability Dynamics will share their learning about partnership working at a free conference in Chesterfield on 19 November 2013 – other members of the Disability Action Alliance are welcome to attend, get the initial evaluation report and receive their information e-shots -just send details to email@example.com.
