DAA Member Elbow Grease was founded by North London Homecare and Support Ltd. Elbow Grease are a team of volunteers who provide services like dog walking, light cleaning, shopping, light gardening and befriending in the Harlow area to people who are facing difficulties due to old age, illness or disability. For charities there is no charge but for the general public they ask for a donation of £5 per hour to go towards their social events.
Many of the people who use their services have a Learning Disability and in consultation with their service users Elbow Grease run many projects. The member’s participation is sessional and how often is chosen by them and depends upon their commitment to their role within the projects. The activities are meaningful to their service users, and they learn new things, discover their local community and also gives their carer’s the opportunity for short periods of respite. This helps their members gain experience, confidence and skills.
