A programme worth £4.3m offering grants, direct support and shared learning opportunities to communities who want to take control of their area and tackle local issues, opens today (Monday 20 January).
The Our Place support programme, will be run on behalf of the Department for Communities and Local Government by Locality and the LGA and will build on the successes and learning from 12 areas which have pioneered the Our Place approach.
Using the Our Place approach means putting the community at the heart of decision making and bringing together the right people – councillors, public servants, businesses, voluntary and community organisations, and the community themselves, to revolutionise the way a neighbourhood works. So far this has included, tackling health inequalities in Poplar, East London and high levels of youth unemployment in Ilfracombe, Devon.
